An Analysis of Treatment in Intussusception

Abstract
An analysis of intussusecption was performed on 244 cases from December 1985 to January 1990 in general surgery of WonKwang University hospital.
Patients were divided into three groups. Group I was 127 patients who were not recurred after success of initial attempt of barium reduction, Group II 15 patients who were recurred after success of initial attempt of barium reduction, Group III
patients
who were operated due to impossibility or failure of initial attempt of barium reduction. There were 6 operated cases due to failure of barium reduction in group II.
There was no significant difference among groups about etiology, symptom and sign, number of leukocyte and anatomic type of intussusception. Age in group II was higher than in Group I and III. The longer the duration from onset symptom to barium
reduction was the lower the success rate of barium reduction was and surgical treatment was more required.
Most prevalent operative modality was manual reduction in operated cases Recurrence rate was 8.7% in initial attempt of barium reduction alone and 0% in cases of surgical treatment.
